DO NOT COME TO THE US ON STUDENT VISA IF YOU ARE A SURVIVOR AND YOU ARE READING THIS
‼️So this post is not for everyone.
And you must be a survivor, for you to understand the context of this story and its applicability.
‼️ Sharing purely my lived experience. I am not an international studies consultant anymore- although my book, Fully Funded is coming live on ideyforyou app.
✅Who is a survivor?
Anyone who has experienced one trauma or the other.
This can come from witnessing the loss of a parent or loved one to cancer .
Or losing a child during birth or preterm.
Losing a partner.
Or ending a toxic relationship.
Every person with the identity above carries the DNA of a survivor.
Now, let’s proceed.
⚠️Should you as a survivor come to the US on an F1 Visa?
If I was writing this post in 2014/2015, I would say, yes.
But this is 2024.
So I say No‼️
Ask me why.
⚠️ F1 Visa status is limiting. The last thing that you want to deal with as a survivor is another emotional roller coaster.
This is the thing, you are probably moving to a foreign country to find opportunities or to get away from the memories of the hurts you hold from the place you lived when you experienced trauma.
I will continue the thread in the comment section.

When I arrived the US, it was few months after that the whole divorce drama started.
When this started, I didn’t get to stop taking classes temporarily or take out time to take care of myself.
Now may be you are not going through such trauma, you may have moments when you will suffer emotional breakdown.
You wake up one day, and just feel this sudden unexplainable sadness!
It will come like a thick cloud ⛅️ howling over your head;
And if you don’t have a good insurance policy, which many students on F1 visas don’t have, your ability to take care of your mental health is impacted.
